Phase 4 of the Zaafrana wind complex was developed by the New and Renewable Energy Authority (NREA) with Gamesa Eólica as turbine original equipment manufacturer, marking the introduction of Spanish wind technology to the Egyptian market.
The project comprised approximately 71 Gamesa G52 850 kW turbines. Cairo Contracting was appointed to deliver the full civil works scope, encompassing site grading across the rocky desert terrain, reinforced concrete turbine foundations engineered to the Gamesa loading specification, approximately [35 km] of internal access roads and crane pads, medium-voltage collection cable trenching, and substation civil works tying the new array into the existing electrical infrastructure. Project delivery required close coordination with Gamesa’s erection methodology and meticulous sequencing within a live, operational wind farm.
The successful completion further reinforced the Company’s reputation as Egypt’s pre-eminent civil contractor for wind energy projects
