The 120 MW Zaafrana wind farm was financed by the Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC) and developed by the New and Renewable Energy Authority (NREA), with Gamesa Eólica appointed as turbine original equipment manufacturer. The project comprised approximately 190 Gamesa turbines in the 600 kW to 1 MW range.
Cairo Contracting was selected to deliver the full civil works package, including reinforced concrete turbine foundations, approximately [85 km] of internal access roads and crane pads, medium-voltage collection cable trenching, and civil works for the project substation and control building. The JBIC financing structure imposed additional documentation, quality assurance and reporting obligations, which Cairo Contracting managed in parallel with the physical works programme. The 120 MW project ranked among the largest single wind packages ever delivered in Egypt at the time of completion.
