The second phase of the Gabal El Zeit wind complex was developed by the New and Renewable Energy Authority (NREA) with Gamesa Eólica as turbine original equipment manufacturer, financed by the Spanish government through its Fund for International Business Expansion (FIEM). The project comprised 60 Gamesa G80 2.0 MW turbines, delivering an additional 120 MW of installed capacity to the complex.
Cairo Contracting was selected to execute the full civil works scope, including reinforced concrete turbine foundations, approximately [25 km] of internal access roads and crane pads, medium-voltage collection cable trenching, and substation civil works. The construction programme benefited from Cairo Contracting’s deep familiarity with the site geology, logistics corridor and NREA supervisory regime developed during the preceding 200 MW phase. Combined with the Zaafrana programme, the Gabal El Zeit phases consolidated Cairo Contracting’s position as Egypt’s most experienced civil contractor in utility-scale wind generation.
